THE IRON HISTORY MUSEUM

For nearly 4,000 years, iron has been an essential element in the development of all civilisations, which is why a very unique museum has been dedicated to it in Lorraine.
The Iron History Museum (Communauté Urbaine du Grand Nancy) , which opened in 1966, chronologically presents the development of iron, casting and steel production methods in their economic, social and cultural contexts, from their origins to the beginning of the 20th century

 

Collections

Models, original objects and abundant iconographic documents retrace the 3 critical phases of the history of the iron and steel industry:

the «direct method» iron ore period (1500 B.C. to the 14th century A.D.);
 
the introduction of the blast furnace and casting (from the 15th to the 18th centuries);
 
the Industrial and Steel Revolution (from the 19th to the early 20th centuries). In addition, the Museum periodically hosts a variety of temporary exhibitions
